Exciting News

We have exciting news for you this morning tea lovers! Love tea but don't like the hassle of loose leaf? Well now we can offer you freshly and custom made tea bags made with our teas. Pick your favourite tea and we will make you some tea bags to go in your tea cup with it!

We are still working out pricing but will launch it at the next Muddi Boutique Markets on the 10 February, along with some Valentines Day specials. Hope to see you there!

And the tea? Just in, Honeybee. Honeybee is yummy, antioxident-rich honeybush herbal mix. Honeybush is low in tannin and caffeine free. Lovely vanilla taste with a touch of lavender. Sooo good. Has a taste a little like rooibos. For more info on Rooibos and Honeybush, see below.

Rooibos and Honeybush
Have you heard of Rooibos (pronounced as “Roy-bos”)? If you have considered cutting down caffeine and you frequent health food shop, then you might know this tea from South Africa.

Rooibos (Afrikaans for ‘red bush’; scientific name Aspalathus linearis) is a member of the legume family of plants, and is commonly used to make a tisane (herbal tea). Together with Honeybush (scientific name Cyclopia spp.; Family: Fabaceae; ‘Heuningbos’ in Afrikaan), which has a very similar taste, these two herbal infusions make great alternatives to drinking black tea. Both have a similar taste to black tea, and you can drink it black, with milk and/or sugar. And yes, both are caffeine free.

Rooibos and Honeybush have similar nutrients – zinc, copper, calcium, just to name a few. Their proported properties are fairly similar too:

  • anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties
  • relief of hay fever, asthma and allergies
  • relief of insomnia and nervous tension
  • relief of constipation, stomach cramps and colic in infant
  • easing skin conditions including acne, eczema and nappy/diaper rash

Also, it has a low content of tannins, so it doesn’t make a highly astringent tea, which can be a problem with some grades of black or green tea or when ordinary tea is steeped too long.

And yes, they are both caffeine-free!

Loose Leaf Teas

Yahh, after a lot of cursing and fist shaking, our loose leaf tea page is up and running.  Not sure why what I see in the design view and what I see in preview are not the same, so there might be a few irregularities to start with but they are being worked on.

So, to see our range of teas, head to the Loose Leaf Tea page and have a browse.

Remember, if we don't have it, and you want it, we can get it... (maybe!)

Wrap Up

Hmm, I knew I had written something but could not find it! Ahh here it is, wrote it in Word, not blogger.  I wrote this a few weeks ago so it is a bit old but still relevant.

Well things have been a bit quiet on the bloggy front lately but things have been pretty busy on the life front though.

First I had the Muddi Boutique Market in June which was a great success.  Currently I am hooking like mad to get ready for the Makers Space exhibition at the Museum of the Riverina in August. And the opening of the Muddi Boutique House also in August and I am very pleased to say that Tea for Talia will the exclusive stockists of tea in the Muddi House and also you will be also to buy a cup of Tea for Talia tea at the Muddi House, very exciting.  Also I start my new part time job after the school holidays and did I mention it is the school holidays. We are getting organised to spend a few days in Canberra doing the cultural and site seeing thing with the boys.  Oh and creating Mr Magoo's Voltron costume for Book Week.  Busy busy busy.

Muddi
I had a shop at the Muddi Boutique Markets on the 3 June with our tea and High Tea at Home party plan, (our survival packs are still available, just taking a back seat for a while whilst we concentrate on tea for the time being) and I had a great time (thanks Michele for all your help). People were really receptive and the shop looked great.

Sari Duncombe, the creative woman behind the Muddi Boutique Markets and her team of Muddi Tarts are gearing up for the next development in the Muddi puddle.  They have taken over the lease of “At the Farm” at Gumly Gumly which was a very popular place to visit for a meal and chat and for the kids to run around. Unfortunately it has been closed for a while now, sitting forlornly, just waiting for someone to see her potential and revitalise her for the next generation.  Well, Sari has done that. She plans it to be handmade central in the Riverina region and handmade creators and lovers of handmade are chomping at the bit, waiting for it to open.  The Muddi Events House will give handmade creators the opportunity to showcase and sell their creations and to also demonstrate their craft at regular creators’ morning teas.

Muddi Events House, opens 9 August. Stay tuned.

Makers Space
I have been crocheting a range of handbags and accessories to sell at the Museum of the Riverina’s Makers Space.

Each season the Mueum of the Riverina'a  makers'space  hosts a diverse range of Riverina based makers in a series of small-scale group exhibitions. Located in the foyer of the Museum's Historic Council Chambers site, makers' space is open to the public to browse or buy.

The makers' space is a step into the world of retail for independent makers and designers and gives you a glimpse of the regions emerging talent.

My small range will be available from Friday, 17 August - Sunday, 4 November 2012 and I am very excited.  I still have so much to do and it is hard while the kids are home 24/7 and then starting a new job.  All the bags still need to be lined and a tag attached and then the necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings still need to be made.  Ahhh, so much to do and so little time.  Ohh and bags and accessories will be selling under the name of Talia Louise, but more about that later.

And now...
Well I am still crocheting madly for the makers' space exhibition which opens on the 17th August, the opening of the Muddi Events House is on Thursday, the Muddi Boutique Markets are on the 19th August, I started a new job after the school holidays, Mr Magoo had book week and I had a chest infection.

I have to say that I will be very pleased when August is over and I can have a rest. Phew

The weekend

How was your weekend? Was it good? Productive? Quiet? Perfect? To all the mothers of the world, I hope you had a good day on Sunday. To my mum who is suffering the early signs of dementia

Happy Mothers Day!

I can't call her on the phone as she get jumbled up and then frustrated when she is on the phone, so dad, I hope you are reading this and can let mum how much we love her.

Anyhoo, I channeled my inner crafter this weekend, fired up the ol' Janome and made a cushion! I am very pleaed with the result as I have never been an adventerous sewer, mainly hems and mending but I found a cute little book with a teapot cushion, so of course I had to buy it. And then it sat there looking all forlorn, saying make some thing, come on.  So on the weekend I thought I would give it a go. Whilst The Husband looked after the kids, I shuffled upstairs.  I knew I had some material with teacups on it but didn't want to cut it up without a trial first. I found some lovely green material I had used to make bunting for Mr Buggles' 1st birthday party so used that for the trial.

Viola!

Not perfect, needed more stuffing on the bottom right,  but I am very happy with the result. Even if in protest of being woken up, Janny kept snapping my thread, I stayed calm, re-threaded the needle and started again.

Then, still feeling the need to practice my sewing before I start the good teapot (knowing my luck the first one will be the better one) I dug out another little book. I had bought.  I bought some teapot/kitchen material ages ago from the very lovely Posie Patchwork, just because she told me she had some. So I dug it out (lots of digging this weekend) and lo and behold I had the very same fabric used in the pattern.

Again not perfect, had trouble putting the handle in and then when I finally finished the hand sewing at the end, I realised the fleece I used in side was bunched up and not entirely square, but oh well, I had fun and again, am pleased with my progress as a sewer. Might even get around to making something else out of the hundreds of sewing books I have.    Or not. We'll see.

Till next time

Cheers

Committment

I am having trouble committing to anything at the moment. From blogging regularly (as you have probably noticed) to getting ready for my exhibition in August (note to self, must start crocheting!) to A-photo-a-day project (have taken one photo, maybe I can catchup?) and then I read about Fox Lane doing a square a day and thought it sounded like a great idea and then remembered my exhibition and my plan to do a project a week, that was when I had something like 30 weeks to go and thought 30 items would be a good number and as somethings would only be little, that I could make more than one of them. Well now I have 14 weeks to go and only about 5 things made. Committment problems much? Actually life has had a great deal to do with it and just finding the time in the day to do it. I don't crochet at night because I like to sit in my chair under the large window which has all the great natural light. Also Mr Buggles is going through a clingy stage at the moment where I have to be in the same room as him, preferably with him sitting on me to keep me from going anywhere.

 Must finish handbag!

So my plan for this week is to finish the handbag I am working on at the moment, clean my house (yes another thing I can't commit to), get ready for the Muddi Boutique Markets on Sunday 3 June, 9am to 2pm, go watch Mr Magoo in his first ever athletics carnival, do my pamphlet delivery job, stop eating so much junk (ahh something I can commit to, junk food!) and generally just be a better person. Lets see if I can commit to those things this week. Will let you know how I go.  What is your plan for the week?

Loading up some tea for the Muddi Markets

How do I feel today?

Feeling a little blah today.

Went to the Currawarna Markets yesterday and had a great day with some lovely ladies, but heard that a new tea house is coming to town. That was always my dream, to open my own little tea house, serving the teas that I liked and selling craft and books as well. Whilst it was and still is my dream, we just do not have the capital or the time to do it at the moment.
 Carrawarna Markets

As the popularity of tea increases I guess it was invitable that I would not be the only one doing it in my home town, but when new comers come and do it bigger, well it just gets me down a little.
My first time out selling teas, only had 2 flavours then, just testing the market, but sold out that day :)

But on the brighter side, I can say I was here first, selling boutique and speciality teas before all who came after. And if this town can support a dozen coffee shops, I guess there is room for more tea shops as well. I will just keep plugging along, going to the occasional market and selling to my loyal customers. Our next big market will be the Muddi Boutique Markets on 3 June 2012.  It is going to be a big one and we have big plans for it. Hope to see you there supporting handmade in the region.

Reminders
Just a reminder about our High Tea at Home party plan. contact us at teafortalia@exemail.com.au to find out how to hold a High Tea Party at your place!
Also, this year we are a venue for Australia's Biggest Morning Tea. If you would like to donate to a very worthwhile cause, please click the link on our Facebook page to make a donation. We hope to raise $200 with the proceeds from our morning tea and selling our wares at the morning tea!
Oh and we are still selling survival packs!  This is where we started and I am not willing to give up on them!  We had hoped to raise some money for Angels for the Forgotten (supporting kids in care) by donating $3 from every pack sold to them for the months of March and April but did not sell one pack! Not one! Very disappointing. Oh well. Might try this fundraising again later in the year.

Well that's it for now. I hope to blog more in the future, but life has a way of getting in the way lol.

Cheers
